The Pied Bull is Chesters oldest coaching inn. The building dates back to the 11th Century when it was the official residence of the Recorder of Chester. The Pied Bull has since held a continuous licence since 1533. Back then, the Pied Bull was called the Bulls Mansion. This was later changed to the Pied Bull which means black and white bull. The interior is crammed full of original features such as Jacobean panelling and wall beams that were removed from ships up to 700 years ago. As with most of the older buildings in Chester, the Pied Bull is rumoured to be home to several ghosts and has been visited by several renowned mediums hoping to make contact with these most unusual guests.
Our bar area is kept sympathetic to the heritage of the building serving fine real ales from our on-site microbrewery as well as regularly changing guest beers from the local area and from all over the UK. We are closely connected with our local CAMRA branch and offer a 10% discount on all real ales to members with a valid membership card. We also stock a good selection of malt whisky from all over Scotland and Wines selected from all over the world.
